In my previous post, I said I would post something on PPE and how to don/remove gear according to the CDC.  This document (PPEslides6-29-04(1)) is provided by the CDC and people, remember: if you don’t follow the rules, you risk contaminating yourself and others.  PPE is not the time to show off your unique, nifty, time-saving short cuts (all healthcare workers have them).  And remember, aside from these guidelines, use common sense:

  • keep your hands away from your face
  • limit surfaces touched
  • change gloves when torn or heavily contaminated
  • perform hand hygiene constantly (you can’t do it too often)
  • do not use more than 2 gloves at one time (3 gloves actually decrease the integrity of the gloves themselves)
